Description

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

To provide Swakop Uranium with expertise in the field of hydrogeology, water quality management and water-related projects within the Namibian legal framework and company’s objectives. The role is to further advance the understanding of risks, impacts and consequences of activities on the environment for the maintenance and improvement of environmental management.

 

Key Performance Areas:

  • Develop, implement and review relevant standards and procedures for Health, Safety and Environment management systems.
  • Compile and assure Swakop Uranium’s water strategy and obtain management approval.
  • Maintain the required water quality database.
  • Report on non-conformances, take part in internal and external EMS audits.
  • Contribute to water demand planning by identifying recycling or re-use options and potential volumes.
  • Define an internal water quality management policy and appropriate water quality standards.
  • Compile annual sampling schedule based on elevation of previous year’s results and monitor compliance throughout the year.
  • Ensure that analysis results are reported on time and accurately.
  • Address deviations in sewage effluent quality and ensure that the plant operates in compliance with permit conditions.
  • Liaise with government and parastatal institutions with regards to the interpretation and implementation of legislative requirements.
  • Monitor and review processes throughout the mine and identify areas for improvement.
  • Environmental incident – Fault finding investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Data accuracy and precision – Implementation of additional data quality assurance controls.
  • Potential hazards – Conduct risk assessment and implement mitigating systems.
Requirements

Requirements and experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Hydrogeology Management or equivalent.
  • 5 years’ relevant experience as a Hydrogeology and environmental management of which 2 years have been in supervisory level.
  • Experience in conducting in environmental impact assessment, Risk Management and Geographic Information System (GIS).
  • Hydrogeology or water resources management post graduate will be an added advantage.
  • Experience in the implementation of ISO 45001 standard and NOSA requirements.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Safety Legislation.
  • Valid Code B/BE Driver’s License.
