Senior Officer: Safety & Health – Swakop Uranium
Job Description
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To provide Swakop Uranium employees, End User Departments and contractors with an advisory service in terms of Safety and Health aspects to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and standards.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
- Develop, implement, and review standards and procedures for health and safety management systems.
- Ensure compliance with emergency preparedness capabilities in line with relevant standards.
- Coordinate, monitor, and implement contractor SSHER management systems to meet company standards.
- Conduct scheduled safety and health inspections and audits.
- Perform Visible Felt Leadership interactions to address unsafe behaviours.
- Conduct and facilitate risk assessments and incident investigations.
- Lead investigations into serious incidents involving injury or equipment damage and implement corrective actions.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of corrective actions and continuous improvement measures.
- Develop training materials and provide SSHER-related training to employees and contractors.
- Ensure contractor compliance with company and regulatory SSHER requirements.
- Conduct periodic safety and health awareness programmes and campaigns.
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture across all site activities.
- Track, compile, and maintain safety statistics, equipment records, and incident reports.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Safety/Health Management or equivalent qualification.
- Certification such as SAMTRAC, SHEBA, NEBOSH, or similar (advantageous).
- Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience, including at least 2 years at a supervisory level.
- Experience in inspections, audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
- Experience implementing ISO 45001 and NOSA standards.
- Valid Code B/BE driver’s license.
