Division: Mining (Rössing Site)
Purpose of the Job
To supervise and coordinate blasting operations to ensure the safe, efficient and compliant execution of blasting activities. The role is responsible for managing blasting teams, overseeing explosives handling and charging activities, and ensuring operational targets are achieved in accordance with operational, safety and environmental standards.
Key Performance Areas
- Supervise daily blasting operations to ensure safe and efficient execution.
- Manage explosives handling, charging and blast preparation activities.
- Coordinate blast planning, mobilisation and execution with operational teams.
- Lead, coach and develop blasting personnel to achieve high performance.
- Monitor the quality of blasting activities and implement continuous improvements.
- Manage blasting resources and support cost-effective operations.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental and statutory requirements.
- Prepare operational reports and maintain accurate blasting records.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 certificate (20 points minimum in six subjects)
- Valid driver’s licence
- Valid Open Pit Blasting Certificate
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in open pit blasting operations
- Minimum of 2 years’ supervisory experience in a mining environment
Knowledge and Skills:
- Sound knowledge of open pit blasting methods and procedures
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Good planning, organisational and communication abilities
- Knowledge of explosives management and blasting safety standards
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Commitment to safe, efficient and compliant mining operations
