Job Description

Position Overview

We are seeking suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill three mechanic positions: one (1) LDV Mechanic and two (2) HME Mechanics. The successful candidates will be responsible for the inspection, diagnosis, servicing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Light Duty Vehicles (LDVs), Heavy Mobile Equipment (HME), and associated mining equipment. The role is focused on ensuring equipment safety, reliability, and availability through the effective execution of planned, preventative, and corrective maintenance activities while supporting operational excellence in a demanding mining environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Equipment Maintenance and Repairs: Perform inspections, servicing, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repairs on Light Duty Vehicles (LDVs), Heavy Mobile Equipment (HME), and associated mining equipment to ensure reliable operation and maximum equipment availability.
• Preventative Maintenance: Execute planned, preventative, and corrective maintenance activities in accordance with maintenance schedules, manufacturer specifications, company standards, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Fault Diagnosis and Troubleshooting: Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults using appropriate diagnostic tools and testing equipment. Identify root causes of equipment failures and implement effective repair solutions to minimize downtime.
• Servicing and Component Overhauls: Conduct routine servicing activities, including oil and filter changes, lubrication, fluid checks, component inspections, and overhaul or replacement of equipment components using approved parts and procedures.
• Equipment Performance Monitoring: Monitor equipment condition, identify defects or abnormalities, and report maintenance requirements to ensure the safe and efficient operation of all equipment.
• Record Keeping and Reporting: Maintain accurate maintenance records, service reports, inspection checklists, and equipment history documentation. Report equipment conditions, completed work, and maintenance concerns to supervisors.
• Supervision and Teamwork: Supervise and guide assistants by allocating tasks, monitoring work quality, and promoting adherence to company standards. Collaborate effectively with supervisors and maintenance personnel to achieve operational objectives.
• Inventory and Resource Management: Report stock shortages, damaged parts, tool defects, and inventory discrepancies to ensure the availability of materials and resources required for maintenance activities.
• Quality Assurance and Housekeeping: Ensure high-quality workmanship, maintain discipline, and uphold housekeeping standards within the workshop and designated work areas.
• Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance: Comply with all Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality requirements, site rules, risk assessments, and company policies. Maintain safe work practices and contribute to a safe working environment at all times.
• General Duties: Perform any other reasonable duties or tasks assigned by the supervisor in support of maintenance and operational requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

• Education: Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) or equivalent qualification.
• Experience: Minimum three (3) years’ post-trade experience in the maintenance, diagnosis, servicing, and repair of Light Duty Vehicles (LDVs) and/or Heavy Mobile Equipment (HME) within the mining, earthmoving, construction, or related industries.
• Trade Qualification: Qualified Artisan with a Trade Test Certificate (Namibian Trade Certificate accredited by the NTA) in Diesel Mechanics or a related mechanical trade.
• Driver’s Licence: Valid Code B (Code 8) driver’s licence is required. A Code C1/C (Code 10) licence will be advantageous.
