Rosh Pinah Zinc
About Company
Located in the ||Karas Region of southwestern Namibia, the Rosh Pinah mine is a long-standing underground operation specializing in the extraction of zinc and lead, with copper, silver, and gold as byproducts. Discovered in 1963 and in continuous operation since 1969, the mine is situated near the town of Rosh Pinah, approximately 20 kilometers north of the Orange River. Since June 2023, the mine has been majority-owned (89.96%) by Appian Capital Advisory, with the remaining interest held by Namibian empowerment groupings. The operation utilizes a long-hole open stoping mining method and is a vital contributor to the national economy, historically producing tens of thousands of tonnes of zinc and lead concentrates annually.
The mine is currently undergoing a significant redevelopment known as the Rosh Pinah 2.0 (RP2.0) expansion project, which is on track for full commissioning in the third quarter of 2026. This project aims to nearly double the mill’s throughput from 0.7 million tonnes to 1.3 million tonnes of ore per annum, increasing zinc-equivalent production to an average of 170 million pounds per year. To support this growth sustainably, the mine is integrating renewable energy through the Rosh Pinah Solar Park, which is expanding to a total capacity of 16.3 MWp to provide approximately 30% of the facility’s power. These upgrades, including a new processing plant and water treatment facilities, are designed to modernize infrastructure and significantly extend the mine’s operational life
