Division: Mining (Rössing Site)
Purpose of the Job
To lead and manage all blasting activities to ensure safe, efficient and cost-effective operations. The role is responsible for planning and scheduling blasting activities, leading operational teams, ensuring compliance with safety standards and driving continuous improvement to achieve production objectives.
Key Performance Areas
- Lead and manage all blasting operations to achieve production targets.
- Develop and implement blast plans, schedules and operational strategies.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and statutory requirements.
- Manage blasting resources, operational budgets and equipment utilisation.
- Provide technical support and guidance to drilling and blasting teams.
- Lead, coach and develop supervisors and operational personnel.
- Monitor operational performance and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
- Prepare operational reports and ensure effective communication with management.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications:
- B.Sc. Degree or equivalent qualification in Mining Engineering or a related field
- Valid Open Pit Blasting Certificate
- Valid Code B Driver’s Licence
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 to 10 years’ experience in open pit mining operations
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in blasting operations
- Minimum of 3 years’ supervisory or leadership experience
- Experience in short-term mine planning will be an added advantage
Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong knowledge of blast planning and execution
- Excellent planning, organisational and budgeting skills
- Strong leadership, coaching and people management abilities
- Excellent communication, problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Sound understanding of mining safety standards and operational best practices
- Ability to drive operational performance and continuous improvement
