Core purpose of the role
The Country Manager is accountable for the sustainability, improved profitability and growth of the integrated Rent Lease business within the designated regional country taking into account relevant legislation.
Key deliverables and outputs
Country Strategy and Plan Development and Implementation
- Review the overall company plan and strategy and direction of the business
- Align and develop the local country strategy and plan as aligned to the business direction and strategy
- Identify new projects and products to be introduced into the country plan
- Identify opportunities for partnerships and new suppliers to support the business to achieve the strategy
- Set and monitor milestones and goals to achieve key elements of the strategy and plan
- Define, translate and cascade scorecard key deliverables for all roles across the business to achieve the overall plan and strategy.
Country Operations Plan Implementation
- Ensure implementation of strategy in the designated regional country
- Design the organisational structure and resources to operate the business
- Negotiate relevant contracts to support operations
- Secure and renew relevant registrations to operate locally and monitor compliance with local country companies acts and regulations
- Sit on the board as a local director
- Continuously review systems and enablers internally and externally
- Ensure that property lease agreements are kept current and comply to Zeda requirements
- Understand facility requirements and source facilities.
Marketing and Country Revenue Target Management
- Provide guidance and identify opportunities for marketing campaigns in the regional country
- Review and approve marketing services and products for the regional country
- Identify opportunities for business development of current and new products
- Negotiate and agree on new contracts and agreements
- Ensure that monthly budgeted profitability targets are defined, monitored, achieved and exceeded
- Ensure budgeted revenue monthly targets are achieved or exceeded
- Ensure fleet growth targets are achieved or exceeded
- Ensure monthly car sales targets are achieved and profit margins maintained.
Leasing, Rental and Car Sales Management
- Collaborate with fleet suppliers to manage the car vehicle supply chain to ensure that the correct stock is delivered and stock availability
- Manage fleet including the maintenance of the fleet through relationships with dealerships
- Manage the operational control of the vehicle including insurance, registration, licensing, fines etc.
- Compile reports relating to the life and quality of the fleet internally and externally
- Renegotiate contracted rates with customers
- Reassess and realign leasing contracts to operate within contract parameters
- Manage and oversee contracts to ensure that vehicles do not go over term to avoid excess costs
- Oversee and manage the fleet maintenance fund and maintenance plans
- Manage and oversee the car sales process including pricing, profitably, marketing and final disposal of vehicles.
Country Risk Management
- Review the in-country environment and conduct an overall risk assessment
- Identify specific risks that may impact and derail elements of the strategy and plan
- Identify rates risks and compile a risk register
- Identify and implement potential mitigation factors
- Review risks on an ongoing basis
- Research changes in the market that may impact the business and could be identified as a risk.
Financial and Budget Management
- Oversee the financial operations are managed effectively including correct financial reporting
- Ensure that financial information is submitted to head office for compilation
- Ensure that information is correct and accurate and that reports are produced on time
- Manage and support internal and external audits
- Ensure that a set of audited financial statements are produced and are compliant to the local requirements for tax and registration purposes
- Manage cash flow, interest and cost of borrowing to ensure that these are at the right rates and recovering at the right rates
- Monitor and manage spend as per budget
- Oversee the creation and management of the asset register
- Review and take accountability for receivables age analysis and provide assistance with collection of outstanding debtors
- Monitor that the Capex process and limits of authority are adhered to
- Provide input into planning cash requirements and sourcing funding in the local markets
- Review and provide input on fleet planning and authorisation of vehicle purchases and sales (E.g. RAC, Car Sales)
- Conduct detailed budget reviews and presentation
- Ensure fiduciary, legislative and statutory compliance as an accountable officer of designated regional country if applicable
- Review and provide input into quarterly board packs for designated country
- Provide input into rate reviews and authorisations
- Review, oversee and jointly sign-off major tenders as per delegation of authority.
Stakeholder Relationship Management
- Accompany the Sales team on key customer visits
- Visit key suppliers (e.g. panel beaters, tyre suppliers, motor vehicle dealerships)
- Build effective relationships with the in-country integrated Avis Budget Rent Lease teams
- Build effective relationships with in-country Civil Aviation Airport Authorities (NAC etc.)
- Build effective relationships with South African Rent Lease support departments (e.g. Human Capital, Training, IT etc.)
- Deal with and resolve key customer complaints
- Be responsible for customer satisfaction in-country
- Conduct monthly/regular reviews of CSI scores and customer comments
- Develop and implement action plans to improve CSI
- Ensure that relevant and impactful CSR strategies are in place and actioned accordingly.
People Management
- Ensure compliance with region specific laws, policies and legislation
- Provide input into optimal organisational structure for designated regional country and skills to support the delivery of strategy
- Manage and lead a team of managers for the designated regional country
- Manage the performance and development of direct reports
- Conduct monthly one-on-ones with direct reports
- Hold and attend team meetings when conducting site visits and oversee perusal of supervisory team meeting minutes for further auctioning
- Responsible for annual employee engagement results, communication thereof and resulting action plans
- Compile and maintain a succession plan for the designated country in line with business and country requirements.
Internal and External Stakeholders
The role requires close engagement and collaboration with key internal and external Stakeholders.
Internal Stakeholders
Senior Manager: Africa Growth, Business Development and Sub-licensees, functional support teams, Legal and Property teams, Special Investigations, Sales team.
External Stakeholders
Suppliers, customers and other relevant regional country stakeholders, NAC, CARAN.
Academic Qualifications
Essential:
- NQF Level 7 Qualification in Business (Bachelors).
- Valid Driver’s License
- Work and/or Residence Permit – legal right to work in respective country
- Criminal Record Checks.
Advantageous
NQF Level 8 Qualification in Business (Post Bachelors)
Note: Required to Travel.
Work Experience
Essential:
- 5-8 Years’ Experience managing and running a regional country in a similar business.
Advantageous:
- 2 Years’ Experience in the rental lease business
- 2 Years’ Experience in Car Sales.
