DATA SCIENCE SPECIALIST

 

Purpose of The Job

To gather, integrate, analyse, and interpret complex datasets to provide actionable
insights that support data-driven decision-making and drive the digital
transformation strategy. The Data Science Specialist will play a crucial role in
establishing a centralized data warehouse, leveraging AI solutions for predictive
analysis, and designing business intelligence (BI) reports to enhance reporting capabilities
and enable data-driven strategies. The position reports directly to the
Manager: ICT Development & Innovation.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

â–ª Design, implement, and maintain systems for collecting, verifying, and integrating
data from various sources, ensuring adherence to standards, efficient
storage, and retrieval, while collaborating with ICT teams to support data warehouse infrastructure.
VACANCY
â–ª Identify and resolve data issues, standardize formats, automate cleaning tasks,
validate and transform datasets, document processes, review workflows, and
test data for usability in analysis tools.
â–ª Conduct descriptive and inferential analyses, apply advanced statistical techniques,
integrate data from multiple sources, develop models, create detailed
reports, provide actionable recommendations, and stay updated on new analysis techniques and tools.
â–ª Design and develop interactive dashboards, create visualizations to simplify complex data,
ensure accuracy and timeliness of reports, customize templates,
utilize visualization tools effectively, integrate real-time data, provide training on data
interpretation, and regularly update visualizations.
â–ª Build and validate predictive models, use regression, clustering, and classification
techniques, evaluate and iterate on model performance, apply machine
learning algorithms, maintain and update models, document methodologies, and share insights
for strategic decision-making.
â–ª Define and implement data quality metrics, perform regular audits, proactively address
data issues, collaborate with data owners, track dataset changes,
implement validation checks, ensure compliance with data governance policies, and provide
training on data quality maintenance.
â–ª Assist in designing and implementing a scalable data warehouse, integrate big data sources,
support self-service reporting, design ETL pipelines, develop
and maintain BI tools, ensure alignment with organizational goals, document workflows, optimize
performance, and enable predictive analytics.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
â–ª An Honours Degree [NQF Level 8] in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Information Systems,
Computer Science, or equivalent.
▪ A Master’s Degree [NQF Level 9] in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Information Systems,
Computer Science, or equivalent is an added advantage.
â–ª Minimum of five (5) years of proven experience in data analytics, data visualization,
and BI tools with a strong understanding of statistical analysis and modelling
techniques, experience with ETL tools, SQL, database management systems and data
warehousing, of which two (2) years should have been in a senior role.
â–ª Must have a track record of successful completion of high-impact data-driven
projects working with real-world datasets across different business functions,
demonstrating advanced data modelling, predictive analytics, and visualization skills.
â–ª Certification in Data Analytics (e.g. Google Data Analytics, IBM Data Analyst,
CompTIA Data+, Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate, AWS Certified
Data Analytics, Google Data Engineer, SAS), Data Science or Business Intelligence
tools (e.g. Microsoft Power BI, Tableau Certified Data Analyst), Big Data
(e.g. Cloudera or AWS Certified Data Analytics, Google Professional Data Engineer,
Azure Data Scientist Associate) is an added advantage,
â–ª Must be detail-oriented, analytical, and precise with a strong focus on data accuracy and quality.
â–ª Adept at problem-solving and innovative thinking, with the ability
to tackle data-related challenges effectively.
â–ª Strong communication skills, capable of translating complex
technical information into business-friendly language.
▪ Code BE driver’s License.
â–ª Must be a Namibian Citizen.
