Role Overview:
CCF seeks a passionate and experienced Ecology Manager to lead and support its conservation
programs. This role involves advancing cheetah conservation through scientific research, field
operations, and innovative management strategies. The successful candidate will collaborate with
stakeholders, oversee projects, and engage with communities to promote sustainable conservation
practices.
Key Responsibilities:
• Design and implement conservation research projects focusing on cheetah ecology and
human-wildlife conflict mitigation.
• Lead data collection, analysis, and interpretation to inform evidence-based strategies.
• Publish findings in scientific journals and present at international conferences.
• Oversee field operations, ensuring the successful execution of conservation projects.
• Manage large datasets and employ GIS tools for spatial analyses of cheetah movements
and habitat use.
• Develop and apply community engagement initiatives to foster coexistence and
conservation awareness.
• Collaborate with local and international partners, including government agencies, NGOs,
and academic institutions.
• Train and supervise interns, students, and field staff.
• Assist in securing funding through grant writing and donor relations.
• Contribute to CCF’s educational programs by delivering lectures and workshops.
Qualifications and Skills:
• PhD in Ecology, Conservation Science, or related fields, with expertise in large mammal
research.
• Strong research and data analysis skills, including proficiency in R and GIS (e.g., QGIS,
ArcGIS).
• Proven experience in human-wildlife conflict mitigation, with more than 5 years of fieldwork
experience.
• Demonstrated ability to engage with a wide variety of stakeholders regarding human-wildlife
conflict.
• Experience with collaring and tracking collared animals.
• International experience addressing human-wildlife conflict and developing toolkits to
promote human-wildlife coexistence.
• Experience working with carnivores and in protected areas containing carnivores.
• Experience working with camera traps.
• A track record of peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations.
• Effective project management skills with experience in leading field teams in remote
environments.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multicultural settings.
• Proficiency in driving 4×4 vehicles and operating in Big 5 reserves.
• Experience in fundraising and grant writing is advantageous.
