Job Description

This position oversees the management and development of the Mining Maintenance strategic objectives, plan, systems, policies, procedures and internal controls to ensure availability of mining equipment to meet production targets and contain costs.

 

Key Performance Areas:

  • Develop, implement and manage the maintenance and repair strategies, system policies, procedures, resources, control standards, measures and programmes to achieve reliability and availability targets for mining equipment and associated infrastructure.
  • Interpret and apply all relevant statutory requirements, regulations and standards.
  • Design and implement improvement plans to maintenance and management programmes, systems and internal controls.
  • Agree on reliability and availability levels of all earthmoving equipment and associated infrastructure systems.
  • Monitor, audit and evaluate earthmoving equipment and associated infrastructure systems’ efficiency and productivity trends and adjust plans accordingly.
  • Ensure maintenance resources are available to meet planned schedules.
  • Investigate all serious/critical/high potential mining maintenance or equipment productivity problems to identify causes and determine prevention measures.
  • Manage performance as per contract specifications and service level agreements (SLA’s).
  • Manage planned maintenance packages and data supplied by contractors and OEMs who analyze equipment performance.
  • Make recommendations to assist the contractors on site to ensure optimal equipment availability and performance.
  • Determine optimum store stock items to avoid/prevent production delays and ensure it is within financial requirements.
  • Compile the overall mining maintenance labor and operation budget as per company policy and procedures.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with external contractors, specialists, suppliers, software providers, regulatory authorities, individual or business customers and provide assistance with problems that may arise, ensuring cost-effective quality service.

Requirements and experience:

  • B Sc Degree in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering or similar qualification.
  • Post Graduate Qualification in Engineering or management or relevant field will be an added advantage.
  • Must be eligible for registration as a legal appointee.
  • 12 years’ working experience in a mining maintenance environment of which 5 years’ should have been on a Senior Management level.
  • Project management experience.
  • Sound maintenance planning and production experience.
  • Sound experience in the application of RCM/RCS/FMEA analysis especially availability/reliability modelling.
  • Sound experience in Reliability Centered maintenance (RCM) philosophies and techniques.
  • Broad knowledge across a variety of engineering disciplines.
  • Familiar with using mathematical modelling of system in order to attempt predictions about system failure.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of mining maintenance equipment, operations and related machinery inclusive plant equipment.
  • Understanding of human contribution to reliability.
  • Project management knowledge of utilizing various/other key reliability engineering techniques, e.g. RCFA, etc.
  • SAP PM knowledge.
  • Equipment long term and LCC based budgeting experience.
  • Code B or BE Driver’s License.
