Job Description

A vacancy exists for a Process Technician in the Metallurgy section within the Processing Operations department, reporting to the area specific Metallurgist. The primary purpose of this role is to effectively collect technical data to support the Metallurgist’s decision making and to guide the Operations Foreman on metallurgical operationsThe primary purpose of this role is to effectively collect technical data to support the Metallurgist’s decision making and to guide the Operations Foreman on metallurgical operations.

 

Key Performance Areas:

  • Maintain a safe, healthy and accident-free workplace with minimal impact on environment and health of employees.
  • Collect, analyse and report all routine profile samples and for troubleshooting purposes.
  • Provide input into the operating philosophy by collecting and analysing process information.
  • Compare actual to planned process performance and highlight areas of concern to ensure it is addressed effectively.
  • Monitor and update major consumables usage trends and highlight deviations.
  • Compare operating practice to standard operating instructions and advise on revision in the section.
  • Assist foreman to co-ordinate activities on daily basis.
  • Calculate the production capabilities of processing equipment and suggest ways for optimising equipment and throughput rates.
  • Continuously assess performance of section against set KPIs, identifying opportunities for improvement.

Requirements and experience:

  • A recognized National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Chemical / Mineral Processing or Metallurgical Engineering or any equivalent tertiary qualification in chemistry or physics.
  • A minimum of five (5) years post-qualification experience in a Metallurgical Processing operation environment.
  • A valid Code B driver’s licence.
