Job Description

To manage and drive the full scope of projects by successful initiation, planning design, execution, monitoring and closure, engaging with current and new clients to secure opportunities to ensure your business unit is sustainable.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Estimating and Revenue Forecasting

  • Ensure cost estimates and quotations for prospective clients are prepared accurately and timeously
  • Ensure supervisors fully understand project and client requirements
  • Ensure timely quotation of additional work
  • Ensure accurate forecasting and progress reporting at WIP meetings, including cash flow
  • Monitor and report deviations from forecast or budget timeously in terms of schedule and cost
  • Ensure invoices are issued to the correct party and signed off timeously

Contract and Project Management

  • Produce project plans and continuously update them throughout the project lifecycle
  • Ensure familiarity with contractual terms and conditions and manage them accordingly
  • Provide technical advice and support to Foremen and Supervisors on interpreting customer requirements
  • Ensure customer requirements are clearly specified and communicated
  • Ensure forecast labour hours and project duration are prepared by the Project Coordinator with support from Foremen/Supervisors
  • Control labour hours against approved budgets
  • Control project costs against approved estimates
  • Report any client-related challenges or issues to management
  • Coordinate and control projects in line with available resources, deadlines, profitability, and quality standards
  • Manage and optimise project profitability

Planning and Management of Sub-Contractors

  • Source and appoint cost-effective, experienced, and efficient sub-contractors for specific projects
  • Monitor progress, update project programmes, and implement catch-up strategies where required
  • Ensure regular site meetings are conducted
  • Ensure sub-contractors receive official orders prior to commencement of work
  • Review, verify, and approve all sub-contractor invoices
  • Monitor and evaluate sub-contractor performance on an ongoing basis

Leadership and Management of Discipline

  • Demonstrate leadership aligned with company values and breakthrough architecture

  • Assign, instruct, and lead the right people to the right tasks

Enforcement of Safety and Quality

  • Ensure housekeeping and safety standards are maintained through delegation to relevant supervisors
  • Ensure quality control standards are met in line with contractual requirements
  • Ensure safety standards are met in line with contractual requirements
  • Address quality control issues raised by the Quality Control Officer and escalate where necessary
  • Address safety issues raised by the Safety Officer and escalate where necessary
  • Ensure accurate and complete project documentation is maintained
  • Ensure warranty claims do not arise due to negligence or poor workmanship
  • Ensure vehicles, equipment, and cranes are regularly maintained and serviced

Customer Service and Marketing

  • Maintain clear, accurate, and recordable communication with clients to prevent disputes
  • Drive business development by building and maintaining strong client relationships

Minimum Qualification & Experience Requirement:

  • Qualification in Project Management/Commercial/Technical or equivalent
  • Minimum of 6 – 8 years’ experience in the Industrial/Mining/Ship Repair industry on middle leadership team level
  • Advanced MS Excel & Projects.
  • Valid drivers license
