Job Description
The PAAB is a statutory body governing the public accounting and auditing profession in Namibia. The legal mandate of the Board, as derived from the establishing Act, PAA Act No.51 of 1951 as amended, is to regulate Public Accountants and Auditors in Namibia.
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Lead and direct the PAAB’s research in technical aspects and analyse information for Accounting & Auditing Standards Projects and keep up to date with new developments and relevant standards and legislation. To draft and/or comment on ethics and auditing standards, legislation, or any other information which might affect auditors & Accountants. Keep abreast of international developments and be alert to opportunities to influence the international standard setting process.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead projects on drafting, adopting, and interpreting new auditing & accounting standards.
- Research technical aspects and analyse information, to inform the development of the pronouncements.
- Draft/comment on auditing & accounting standards, legislation, or any other information which may impact auditors & accountants.
- Establish and maintain relationships with regulators to educate them to understand the scope of collaboration with auditors.
- Keep up to date with recent developments regarding auditing & accounting assurance.
- Keep up to date with legislation that has an impact on auditors & accountants’ assurance.
- Collaborate on ad hoc projects with other departments or Professional Bodies, FAQ on audit & accountants queries.
- Miantain effective professional stakeholder engagement with PAAB Standards Committee.
- Respond to technical queries from committee, task, groups, colleagues, practitioners, and the public.
- Assist the CEO on special projects and tasks
Requirements
- Understanding of legal requirements affecting auditors & accountants and strong technical ability.
- Working knowledge of auditing & accounting ethics standards.
- Ability to keep up to date with the latest accounting- auditing- and ethics standards and pronouncements.
- Maintain professionalism both inside and outside of the work environment.
- Should have a strong commercial awareness and a good understanding of current trends in the auditing and accounting profession.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality, and independent mind.
- Ability to work under pressure to meet demanding deadlines while maintaining consistent quality of work.
- Problem-solving and conflict-management skills.
- Project management skills.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Function optimally without or with very limited supervision.
- Qualified CA or ACCA.
- + 5 years of Audit technical experience, and + I year managerial and project management experience.
- Standard-setting experience (added advantage).
- Technical Knowledge and experience in auditing and accounting standards.
- Valid Code B license.
- Preference will be given to Namibian Citizens.
- THIS POSITION REQUIRES OUT-OF-OFFICE WORK, TRAVEL AWAY FROM HOME AND MAY REQUIRE LONG OFFICE HOURS FROM TIME TO TIME.
