Job Overview
Rosh Pinah Zinc, a leading mining company, is seeking a skilled Mine Planning Superintendent to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in our operations.
Your Key Areas of Responsibility
- Develop, maintain, and continuously improve the Life of Mine, annual, and quarterly mine plans, integrating production, geotechnical, geological, and ventilation inputs to ensure the mine plan is achievable, safe, and value-optimizing.
- Ensure short-term production and drill-and-blast plans developed by the Senior Production Engineer align with the medium- and long-term mine plan, resolving conflicts between short-term execution and long-term strategy.
- Ensure the ventilation plan and design, led by the Ventilation Engineer, are fully integrated into the mine plan, addressing airflow, cooling, and refrigeration requirements as the mine develops.
- Lead, develop, and mentor the Senior Mine Planning Engineer, Senior Production Engineer, and Ventilation Engineer, building a capable, motivated multidisciplinary team and ensuring succession depth.
- Analyse and report on planned versus actual performance across production, ventilation, and mine planning, identifying variances and driving corrective action.
- Prepare and manage the OPEX and CAPEX budgets for the mine planning section.
- Ensure compliance with SHE requirements, company standards, and statutory regulations.
Ideally, You Will Have
- A Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering (NQF: 8) or equivalent.
- Government Certificate of Competency (Mine Manager’s Certificate) or working towards obtaining one is advantageous.
- In possession of Underground Blasting Ticket.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in underground hard rock mining, with significant exposure to sublevel open stoping, of which 3-5 years has been in a senior mine planning or production engineering role.
- Demonstrated experience leading a multidisciplinary technical team.
- Good experience with Design and Scheduling Software: Highly proficient in Deswik Spatial (CAD), Deswik Planning (Sched). Deswik Ops and MSO skills would be an advantage.
- Good working knowledge of ventilation planning principles sufficient to integrate ventilation constraints into the mine plan.
- Advanced understanding of LOM scheduling, short- and medium-term mine planning, and drill and blast design principles.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to address complex, changing operational and planning challenges.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills to mentor team members and coordinate across departments.
- Sound budget and financial management skills for OPEX/CAPEX planning.
- Code B driver’s license.
- Valid Police Clearance Certificate (not older than 6 months).
