Job Description
The Technical Sales Engineer plays a pivotal role in driving revenue growth by combining deep technical knowledge with strong commercial acumen. This role is responsible for understanding complex engineering products, particularly wear technologies, welding solutions, liners and wear plates—and translating this into value driven solutions for customers. The incumbent ensures that technical expertise supports sales strategies, customer engagement, and market development in alignment with O&L’s Breakthrough Strategy.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Technical Expertise
- Develop deep technical understanding of Kraatz products, services, and solutions.
- Stay updated on industry innovations, competitor technologies, and market developments.
- Provide expert technical consultation to internal and external stakeholders.
Sales Support
- Assist in lead identification, qualification, and opportunity development.
- Develop compelling technical proposals, tenders, and solution presentations.
- Conduct demonstrations and technical presentations for clients.
- Lead and expand the Kraatz liner and wear plate supply business.
Customer Engagement
- Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with key customers.
- Provide tailored technical solutions that address customer needs and reduce cost.
- Conduct client cost-saving analyses and present value propositions.
Market Analysis & Sales Strategy
- Monitor market trends and identify new business opportunities.
- Conduct competitor analysis and positioning assessments.
- Contribute to annual sales targets and develop aligned sales strategies.
- Produce regular performance reports and improvement insights.
Training &Development
- Train at least two junior sales personnel.
- Provide ongoing product and technical training to sales teams.
- Stay informed of product changes and ensure team alignment.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work with operations, engineering, product development, quality teams, and marketing.
- Support quality management system development for the sales department and overall business improvements.
People Leadership Responsibilities
- Provide clear instructions and strategic direction to the sales teams.
- Coach, mentor, and upskill team members on technical knowledge.
- Promote a high-performance culture aligned to O&L Values.
- Manage employee performance, disciplinary processes, and grievances.
- Foster innovation, accountability, and engagement within the team.
General & Ad Hoc Responsibilities
- Maintain confidentiality of company information and trade secrets.
- Provide support during staff absences or crisis events.
- Attend meetings, training, and seminars as required.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies, procedures, and safety standards.
- Report and manage incidents of theft, accident, loss, or policy breaches.
- Attend to any reasonable request made by SLT and GLT.
Work Environment
- Travel required: Approximately 50% (local and regional).
- Office-based: 50%.
- Must be able to work independently and across technical sites or client facilities.
Minimum Qualification & Experience Requirement:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (NQF 7) – Mechanical, Metallurgical, Industrial, or related field. (Advantage: Degree or specialization in Metallurgy, Welding Technology, 6–10 years relevant experience.) OR
- Relevant Technical Qualification – more than 10 years relevant experience (in technical sales, engineering solutions, wear technology, or related industrial sectors.
- Experience in customer relationship management, market analysis, and commercial negotiations.
- Computer proficiency in MS Office
- Valid drivers license
