Occupational Hygienist – New Horizon Copper
Job Description
Role Purpose
The Occupational Hygienist will be responsible for identifying, assessing, monitoring, and controlling occupational health hazards and workplace exposures to protect employees and support compliance with applicable HSE requirements and occupational hygiene standards.
The successful candidate will conduct occupational hygiene surveys and exposure monitoring, assess occupational health risks, recommend control measures, prepare reports, and provide technical support to operational teams.
Key Responsibilities
1. Occupational Hygiene Monitoring
• Plan and conduct occupational hygiene surveys and exposure monitoring.
• Monitor workplace exposures, including dust, noise, heat, vibration, chemicals, and other relevant occupational hazards.
• Maintain accurate monitoring records, sampling data, and reports.
• Ensure monitoring activities support effective exposure management and compliance.
2. Risk Assessment & Exposure Control
• Identify and assess occupational health hazards and exposure risks.
• Recommend appropriate control measures in line with the hierarchy of controls.
• Follow up on the implementation and effectiveness of corrective and preventative actions.
• Support continuous improvement of workplace conditions and exposure controls.
3. Compliance & Reporting
• Support compliance with occupational health, HSE, and statutory requirements.
• Prepare occupational hygiene reports, exposure trends, and recommendations.
• Escalate significant exposure risks and non-compliance to the HSE Manager.
• Maintain accurate documentation for audit and compliance purposes.
4. Health Risk & Exposure Management
• Support programmes aimed at managing occupational health risks and employee exposures.
• Assist with investigations into occupational health concerns and exposure-related incidents.
• Work with HSE, operational, medical, and relevant departments on corrective actions.
5. Workplace & Environmental Conditions
• Assess workplace conditions and recommend improvements to ventilation, housekeeping, and other exposure controls.
• Conduct follow-up assessments to verify the effectiveness of implemented controls.
• Support occupational hygiene requirements for new or changed work areas, activities, and processes.
6. Stakeholder Management
• Work with Mining, Processing, Engineering, Maintenance, HR, Medical, and other departments on occupational hygiene matters.
• Provide technical advice and awareness on occupational health hazards and controls.
• Participate in HSE meetings, inspections, and initiatives.
Minimum Requirements
• Diploma or Degree in Occupational Hygiene, Occupational Health, Environmental Health, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years’ occupational hygiene experience, preferably in mining, heavy industrial, or processing environments.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Professional registration or recognition where applicable.
• Knowledge of occupational health hazards, exposure monitoring, ventilation, dust, noise, heat, vibration, chemical exposure, risk assessment, occupational hygiene legislation, and relevant standards.
Added Advantage
• Experience in a remote mining operation.
• Experience in underground and/or open-pit mining environments.
• Experience with occupational hygiene equipment, sampling techniques, and exposure assessment reporting.
• Additional training in HSE and occupational hygiene systems.

Working Conditions
• Remote mining operation.
• Office, plant, underground/open-pit, operational, and field environment.
• Medium to high work pressure.
• Occasional travel within the mine and to service providers may be required.
