Job Summary
To assist with the safe management, handling, storage and issuing of explosives within the magazine, ensuring accurate stock control and compliance with legal, safety and explosives requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and accurately record explosives delivered to the magazine.
- Issue explosives according to authorised requests from Blasters.
- Safely load, offload and handle explosives between storage and charging areas.
- Assist with stock control and balancing of explosives within the magazine.
- Maintain good housekeeping, security and safe storage standards.
- Assist with blasting activities as required.
- Take responsibility for magazine activities when the Magazine Master is not on duty.
- Ensure compliance with SHEQ standards, explosives regulations and company procedures.
Requirements
- Grade 12 certificate (20 point minimum)
- Certified Magazine Master with CIE
- Valid Code CE Driver’s Licence
- Valid Dangerous Goods Certificate
- Minimum 2 years’ Blasting Assistant experience
- Experience in explosives handling, transportation and storage
- Knowledge of general explosives principles and safe handling requirements
- Good understanding of SHEQ practices and explosives regulations
- Good record-keeping and stock-control abilities
- Basic computer literacy, including Microsoft Office
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work under pressure with minimum supervision
- Strong safety awareness, accountability and attention to detail
