Job Summary

The Mine Supervisor will be responsible for the safe, efficient and environmentally responsible supervision of limestone mining and related quarrying operations. The successful candidate will ensure that mining activities are conducted in accordance with approved mining plans, production requirements, applicable legislation, safety standards and environmental obligations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate daily limestone mining and quarrying operations to achieve production and operational targets.
  • Ensure that all mining activities are conducted safely and in accordance with applicable Namibian laws, regulations, company policies and recognized industry best practices.
  • Provide effective supervision, leadership and guidance to mining personnel and contractors.
  • Plan, coordinate and oversee use, blasting, loading, hauling and related mining activities.
  • Ensure the safe and efficient use, operation and maintenance of heavy mining machinery and equipment.
  • Maintain the high standards of occupational health and safety and actively promote a strong safety culture.
  • Identify workplace hazards, conduct risk assessments and ensure appropriate control measures are implemented.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable environmental requirements and conditions attached to mining licence and other regulatory approvals.
  • Assist with regulatory inspections, licence renewals, statutory reporting and engagements with relevant government authorities that all required mining records, reports, appointments and statutory documentation are properly maintained.
  • Ensure that all required mining performance, equipment utilization and operational costs and recommend improvements where necessary.
  • Participate in workforce planning, training, performance management and the development of mining personnel.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties associated with the position and the Company’s mining operations.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 10 years’ proven experience in the mining industry, preferably in open-pit mining, quarrying or similar operations.
  • At least 5 years’ proven experience in a supervisory or management role within a Mining Division or mining operation.
  • A valid blasting ticket recognized or acceptable for mining operations in Namibia.
  • Proven experience and/or previous formal statutory appointment as a Company Representative or responsible person for mining operations with the relevant Ministry responsible for mining matters in Namibia.
  • Demonstrable and practical experience in occupational health and safety within a mining environment.
  • Sound knowledge of heavy machinery and equipment and their safe and efficient operation.
  • Experience in drilling, blasting, loading, hauling and general open-pit mining or quarry operations will be a distinct advantage.
  • Practical knowledge and experience relating to environmental compliance in mining operations.
  • Experience with mining licence administration, regulatory reporting, licence renewals and related compliance requirements.
  • A sound working knowledge of the legal and regulatory framework governing mining and employment in Namibia.
  • A valid Namibian driver’s licence.
  • Strong leadership, communication, planning, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • The ability to work effectively under pressure and manage a diverse operational workforce.
