Outapi Town Council is the governing authority of Outapi, the capital of Namibia’s Omusati Region, serving as the administrative hub for over 240,000 residents in the wider region. It focuses on delivering affordable municipal services, infrastructure development, and fostering socioeconomic growth through community partnerships.
Outapi Town Council plays a central role in the Omusati Region by providing essential services such as water, sanitation, billing, and urban planning. With Outapi’s population recorded at around 6,600 in the 2011 census, the town functions as a service center for surrounding villages, offering access to hospitals, schools, and government ministries established through Namibia’s decentralization initiatives. The Council emphasizes sustainable development and employment creation, ensuring that residents and investors benefit from a stable environment and enhanced institutional capacity. It also organizes cultural events like the Olufuko Festival, which highlights local traditions and strengthens community identity.
The Council is actively engaged in infrastructure upgrades and participatory governance. Recent projects include the upgrade of gravel roads to bitumen standards in Onhimbu, aimed at improving accessibility and safety. Public consultations are regularly held to involve residents in decision-making, underscoring the Council’s commitment to transparency and inclusivity. Management is overseen by a Chief Executive Officer and senior managers across departments such as environmental health, infrastructure, finance, and local economic development, ensuring efficient administration. Through these initiatives, Outapi Town Council continues to position itself as a driver of regional growth, balancing modern development with cultural preservation.
