Job Summary

Senior machinists are responsible for interpreting technical drawings, setting up and operating CNC and manual machines, and producing parts that meet precise specifications. They are also involved in maintaining equipment, troubleshooting issues, and performing quality checks throughout the manufacturing process. Additionally, they train and oversee junior machinists, enhancing their skills and ensuring that safety and efficiency standards are met. Collaboration with engineers and other team members is essential to improve processes and resolve production challenges.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interpreting technical drawings and specifications to determine machining requirements and sequence of operations
  • Setting up and operating CNC machines (mills, lathes, and other computer-controlled equipment) to produce parts to exact tolerances
  • Programming and adjusting CNC processes, including modifying tooling, work holding, and machine parameters to optimize performance
  • Monitoring production to maintain or exceed standard rates, ensuring quality and efficiency
  • Inspecting and measuring finished parts using tools such as CMMs, dial gauges, and thread gauges, and recording results accurately
  • Performing post-machining finishing (polishing, deburring, chamfering) manually or with mechanical tools
  • Maintaining and troubleshooting equipment, diagnosing and resolving machining issues, and ensuring safe, efficient operation
  • Mentoring and supervising junior machinists, providing training, and ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards
  • Collaborating with engineers, project managers, and shop staff to improve processes, solve production challenges, and meet deadlines
  • Maintaining a clean, organized work area and participating in inventory and documentation tasks

Requirements

  • Grade 12
  • Advance hydraulic certification
  • Advance pneumatic certification
  • Advance CNC machining level 3
  • Red seal
  • 10+ years post trade experience
  • 5-7 years CNC work experience
  • 6+ years of CNC programming experience
