PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Assist the Information Security Analyst in maintaining and improving the organisation’s information security posture. The role focuses primarily on user security awareness training, training completion follow-up, vulnerability monitoring, vulnerability remediation tracking, reporting, and supporting day-to-day security administration. The incumbent works under supervision, escalates complex issues, and helps ensure that users understand and follow secure practices.
KEY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist the Information Security Analyst with monitoring security alerts, security dashboards, access reports, and user-related security events.
• Assist with the user security awareness training programme, including onboarding awareness sessions, refresher training, campaigns, and awareness communications.
• Track security training completion, phishing simulation results, overdue users, repeat failures, and follow-up actions with users and managers.
• Maintain training records, awareness evidence, user acknowledgements, screenshots, exports, and supporting documentation required for audits or management reporting.
• Monitor vulnerability scan outputs, patch status reports, vendor advisories, and vulnerability notifications under supervision.
• Maintain the vulnerability register by recording affected assets, severity, owner, remediation action, target date, status, and closure evidence.
• Follow up with IT teams on patching, configuration hardening, and remediation progress, and verify closure evidence where applicable.
• Escalate critical/high vulnerabilities, overdue remediation items, suspicious activity, repeated user non-compliance, or potential incidents to the Information Security Analyst.
• Support cyber security incident handling by collecting logs, screenshots, timelines, user details, and other evidence as instructed.
• Assist with access review evidence, basic security control checks, and documentation of findings.
• Help colleagues understand secure practices, including phishing reporting, MFA use, password hygiene, safe data handling, and appropriate use of company systems.
• Assist with approved vulnerability assessments and security checks; do not perform independent penetration testing without explicit authorisation.
• Prepare simple weekly/monthly reports or dashboards on training completion, phishing outcomes, vulnerability status, follow-ups, and recurring issues.
• Research security awareness material, common vulnerabilities, and security improvements, and make recommendations to the Information Security Analyst.
• Stay up-to-date on information security awareness topics, vulnerability trends, and relevant security standards.
• Perform any ad hoc tasks as allocated by Supervisor and/or Manager.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION
• Grade 12 (NQF 4).
• IT diploma, certificate, or degree in progress would be advantageous.
• 1-2 years’ relevant experience in IT support, information security support, systems administration, service desk, or security awareness administration.
• Basic understanding of information security principles such as phishing, password hygiene, multi-factor authentication, email security, endpoint protection, and safe handling of company information.
• Basic understanding of vulnerability management concepts including asset registers, vulnerability scan results, severity ratings, patching, remediation follow-up, and evidence collection.
• Familiarity with Windows workstations, Microsoft 365, basic networking, antivirus/EDR tools, patching processes, and IT ticketing/reporting.
• Ability to assist with user awareness campaigns, training records, reminders, phishing simulation follow-up, and basic reporting.
• Entry-level security certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Microsoft SC-900/AZ-900, Fortinet NSE 1/2, or similar would be an added advantage.
OTHER
• Namibian citizen or eligible to work in Namibia.
• Valid Driver’s licence.
• Willing to work overtime and/or weekends when required.
• Proficient in English (written & spoken).
