Overall Purpose of Position
The Laboratory Quality Controller is responsible for maintaining and monitoring quality standards within the metallurgical laboratory to ensure reliable, accurate, and traceable analytical results. The role supports production and metallurgical decision-making by overseeing quality-control practices, reviewing laboratory data, maintaining records, and ensuring that laboratory procedures are consistently applied.
Main Responsibilities
The incumbent will be responsible for duties including, but not limited to the following:
- Monitor laboratory quality-control activities and ensure analytical work is performed in accordance with approved procedures.
- Review analytical results, quality-control checks, trends, and variances to identify potential issues.
- Maintain accurate quality records, registers, documentation, and traceability of laboratory results.
- Support calibration, verification, and routine quality checks of laboratory equipment and methods.
- Investigate out-of-specification or unusual results and coordinate appropriate corrective actions.
- Promote compliance with laboratory safety, housekeeping, quality, and sample-handling requirements.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Metallurgy, Mineral Processing, Laboratory Science, or a related field.
- Relevant experience in a mining, mineral processing, metallurgical, or analytical laboratory environment.
- Practical knowledge of laboratory quality-control principles, analytical procedures, and result verification.
- Ability to interpret laboratory data, identify trends or anomalies, and maintain accurate quality records.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, documentation, and compliance.
- Good communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
