Job Summary

Novaship for and on behalf of our Principal is looking for an experienced and qualified Master (Vessel Captain) to be deployed as Master of Motor Tanker vessels, Operate and lead vessel operations in line with Owners/Operators instructions and ensure the highest standards of safety, security, compliance and operational excellence in line with IMO standards and Owners/Operators ISO standards, terms & conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Overall command and responsibility for the safe navigation, operation and commercial performance of the vessel in full compliance with international maritime legislation, Flag State requirements and Company policies
  • Ensure full compliance with all applicable statutory, regulatory and Company requirements, including SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, ISM Code, ISPS Code, MLC 2006, OCIMF/TMSA standards, Charter Party obligations and Port State Control requirements
  • Exceptional leadership, supervision, mentoring and performance management of all officers and crew, being a strong safety culture, operational excellence and continuous professional development
  • Maintain the highest standards of safety management, risk assessment, emergency preparedness and environmental protection, ensuring the vessel remains fully prepared for audits, inspections and emergency situations at all times
  • Exercise full responsibility for strategic voyage planning, navigational risk assessment, weather routing, cargo operations, fuel efficiency, commercial optimisation and overall operational oversight to ensure safe, efficient and cost-effective voyages
  • Ensure safe and efficient execution of all cargo, ballast and tank cleaning operations in accordance with approved procedures, terminal requirements and applicable international regulations
  • Lead the vessel through Flag State, Port State Control, Class, SIRE 2.0 (under new rules) and CDI Inspections, ensuring consistently high performance and the absence of major deficiencies

Requirements

  • Master Mariner (Unlimited) Certificate of Competency (CoC), STCW II/2, issued and endorsed according with the STCW convention
  • Valid Certificate of Competency (CoC) endorsed by the Flag State
  • Valid STCW Certification with all mandatory courses and endorsements current and compliant with the latest STCW amendments
  • GMDSS General Operator’s Certificate (GOC)
  • Advanced Oil, Chemical and/or Liquefied Gas Tanker Endorsement, as applicable (STCW Regulations V/1-2 and/or V/1-2)
  • Dynamic Positioning (DP) Certificate
  • Minimum 10 years of seagoing experience with STS oil tankers operated covered by MARPOL Annex I and carry cargo verified certificates for transfer equipment
  • Bridge Resource Management (BRM) and Bridge Team Management (BTM) certification
  • Advanced Ship Handling and Maneuvering training
  • Crisis Management and Human Behaviour training (where applicable)
  • Valid Seafarer’s Medical Certificate meeting international and Flag State requirements
  • Minimum 15 years of seagoing experience, including progression through Third Officer, Second Officer, Chief Officer and at least 9 years’ experience as Master on ocean-going tanker vessels
  • Demonstrated command experience on vessels of 50,000 DWT or larger
  • Proven experience managing multinational crews of 20-30 personnel
  • Extensive experience in cargo operations involving crude oil, refined petroleum products, chemicals and/or LNG/LPG
  • Thorough knowledge and practical application of SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, COLREGS, ISM Code, ISPS Code, MLC 2006, OCIMF guidelines, TMSA requirements, and Flag State and Port State Control regulations
  • Proven record of successful Port State Control (PSC), Flag State, SIRE, CDI and Class Inspections with no major deficiencies
  • Experience with Safety Management Systems (SMS), risk assessments, incident investigations and root cause analysis
  • Strong knowledge of tanker cargo handling systems, inert gas systems, cargo control rooms, ballast water management systems and ECDIS
  • Advanced proficiency in ECDIS, Radar/ARPA, AIS BNWAS and other electronic navigation systems
  • Excellent leadership, mentoring, coaching and crew performance management skills
  • Demonstrated competence in emergency response, crisis management and environmental protection
  • Written and verbal English communication skills with certificate CEFR C2
  • High level of computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and shipboard reporting systems
  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of charter party requirements and operational efficiency
  • Clean disciplinary and safety record with no serious marine casualties attributable to the candidate
  • Ability to pass enhanced pre-employment screening, drug and alcohol testing, and background verification
  • Must hold Namibian National ID and passport
  • Must be fluent in French language – minimum B1 – Read, Write and Speak
