Purpose of the Job
To monitor the implementation of and compliance with safety policies and procedures, ensuring a safe working environment across mining operations and adherence to SHEQ standards and legislative requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and enforce compliance with company safety policies, procedures and legislation.
- Conduct safety inspections, audits and risk assessments to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Investigate incidents, accidents and unsafe conditions and recommend preventative measures.
- Develop, review and support the implementation of safety procedures and systems.
- Promote safety awareness and provide guidance to employees, contractors and management.
- Monitor safety performance and identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Coordinate emergency preparedness activities and safety drills.
- Maintain accurate safety records and prepare SHEQ and incident reports for management.
Requirements
- Grade 12 certificate (20 point minimum)
- SAMTRAC Certificate or relevant qualification/diploma in Safety Management
- Valid Code B Driver’s Licence
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a safety-related or similar role
- Experience within a mining or operational environment will be advantageous
- Strong knowledge of safety legislation, regulations and procedures
- Good knowledge of Safety Management Systems and risk management
- Knowledge of hazardous materials and workplace safety practices
- Ability to develop and review health and safety policies and procedures
- Strong incident investigation, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a demanding, fast-paced environment
