Job Overview

Uis Tin Mining Company Pty Ltd an equal opportunity employer, situated in the Erongo region, hereby invites competent & suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of Survey Field Assistant. This position reports to the Surveyor.

Key Responsibilities

Performs all mining survey activities related to mining and engineering requirements, in accordance with Uis Tin Mine standard procedures and accepted surveys practices, on a monthly basis, by:

  • Setting out blasting patterns and block boundaries in the pit using survey data obtained from designs.
  • Responsible for drill and blast pick-ups and set out.
  • Stakes pegs for ore grades, dumps, roads, pit bench elevation control, drilling and loading using G.P.S.
  • Survey and Stakeout of blast hole sockets.
  • Surveying deviations from loading parameters.
  • Installing grade boxes and survey profiles.
  • Carry out of topographic surveys.
  • Ensure base station is up and running every morning.
  • Provides any mining-related and general surveying services as instructed by the Surveyor and maintains survey equipment in good order.
  • Download and interpret the survey data collected and report any deviation to the surveyor.

Key Requirements

  • Grade 12 with a pass Mark in Mathematics. Elementary Survey Certificate will be an advantage.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in the mining industry and at least 1 year in the mine surveying environment.
  • Experience in topographic surveys, stake out blast hole collars.
  • Sound working knowledge of applicable surveying equipment and application of surveying technique.
  • Sound knowledge on the use of surveying equipment and instruments.
  • Knowledge of surveying in an open pit mining environment.
  • Must be familiar with GPS systems and other survey equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of survey software package Trimble business center.
  • Computer literacy in MS Office.
  • Valid code BE driver’s license.
  • A valid police clearance certificate, not older than 6 months.
