Andrada Mining Uis Tin
About Company
The Uis Tin Mine, located in the Erongo Region of Namibia, is recognized as one of the largest open-cast hard-rock tin deposits in the world. Currently owned and operated by Andrada Mining Limited (formerly known as AfriTin Mining), the mine has a storied history dating back to its discovery in 1911. After being closed in 1990 due to a collapse in global tin prices, the facility was revitalized and officially reopened in 2019. Today, it serves as a critical economic engine for the Uis settlement and the broader region, utilizing modernized processing technology to scale production and meet rising global demand
In recent years, the strategic focus at Uis has expanded beyond tin to include the extraction of “tech-metals” like lithium and tantalum. These minerals are vital components for the global energy transition, specifically for the manufacturing of electric vehicle batteries and high-end electronics. The mine is currently undergoing a multi-phase expansion to increase its processing capacity and establish a lithium production circuit, positioning Namibia as a globally significant supplier of critical minerals. This transition from a legacy tin mine to a diversified technology metals hub has attracted substantial international investment and bolstered local employment opportunities.
