Manager: Technical Services
Rosh Pinah Zinc, a leading mining company, is seeking a Manager: Technical Services to lead an integrated, multidisciplinary technical function. The role has full accountability for Exploration Geology, Production Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, Mine Planning, and Mine Survey, and acts as the primary technical bridge between long-term strategy and short-term execution.
Your Key Areas of Responsibility
- Overseeing the Exploration Geology function, including resource definition drilling programs, geological interpretation, and integration of exploration results into the Life of Mine model.
- Overseeing the Production Geology function, including grade control, ore body delineation, and reconciliation between geological block models and production.
- Overseeing the Geotechnical Engineering function, including rock mass characterisation, ground support design, and stability assessments for underground excavations.
- Overseeing the Mine Survey function, including survey control, underground and surface survey compliance, and stope/void volume reconciliation.
- Managing the execution of the Life of Mine (LOM) Annual Calendar to meet key milestone dates.
- Providing leadership for Life of Mine (LOM) designs, schedules, and trade-offs.
- Overseeing and inspecting the quality of LOM, monthly, and weekly designs and schedules through personal inspection and Multi-Disciplinary Reviews (MDRs).
- Advising and supporting the Head of Operations in the planning and execution of the Annual Business Plan.
- Mentoring, coaching, and supporting the team in terms of personal development plans and talent retention.
- Ensure compliance with SHE requirements, company standards, and statutory regulations.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s (Hons) degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, Mineral Resource Management, Metallurgical Engineering, or an equivalent Mining degree.
- M.Sc. in Geology or other technical geology qualifications will be an added advantage.
- MBA or a Postgraduate qualification in Leadership.
- Mine Overseer’s/Mine Manager’s Certificate advantageous.
- Professional registration with Geological Society of SA or Engineering Council, or relevant professional bodies.
- At least 15+ years’ experience in underground mining, of which 5-10 years’ experience should be in a senior technical role.
- Demonstrated experience leading and integrating a multidisciplinary technical team spanning exploration geology, production geology, geotechnical engineering, mine planning, and mine survey is essential.
- Experience in Mineral resource reporting standards and codes (JORC, SAMREC, NI 43-101, or equivalent).
